I might have to step up my husband hunt since J.Crew is set to open a special wedding boutique in my neighborhood! The atelier at 769 Madison Avenue at 66th Street will officially debut on May 27th. I just hope there isn't a wedding gown stampede like the one at Filene's Basement!

J.Crew Fall 2010 Men's Private Preview
>
When I was asked if I would like to attend the private preview of J.Crew's fall collections, you know that my answer was an emphatic yes! As much as I wanted to see what I will be buying from J.Crew this fall (we'll get to that in the next post), I was more excited to see what the male models would look like wearing what regular men will be buying this fall! And they definitely didn't disappoint as you can see by my photos! I was also able to speak with Frank Muytjens, the head of men's design for J.Crew, about what inspired him for fall 2010. He said that he was very inspired by artists and their studios including Achille Castiglioni whose studio he toured in Milan. Also, the sculptures by Brancusi that mix different materials such as smooth marble and rough concrete. I happened to notice an accent while speaking with Frank and it turns out that he's Dutch. I asked being Dutch influences his work and he said that it did because he didn't grow up on the East Coast wearing preppy clothing, therefore, he looks at the style from a distance. As preppy as J.Crew seems, the slimmer cuts and chicer styles do seem to have a European influence. There was of course, lots of tweeds and fabulous new suits for fall but also some luxurious leather bags from Wexler & Co. and cool shoes from Russell Moccasin Co. It may just be starting to feel like spring in New York but at least we know when the weather turns again, we can look forward to a very chic fall!

I'm off to an early drapery installation but I'm leaving you with a sneak peek at the Spring 2011 looks from J.Crew. Big thanks to new President Jenna Lyons and the head of Women's Design Marissa Webb for putting on a fabulous show. I've already picked out what I am dying to wear so let me know what you love!

J.Crew Fall 2010 Women's Private Preview
>
If you liked the men's fall 2010 fashions at J.Crew, you're going to love the women's fall 2010 looks! It's a lot of luxe in the form of sequins, jewels and feathers, mixed with the wools and tweeds you expect for fall. There are a lot of tone on tone color combinations like amber, brown and blush with pops of "exclamation colors" such as peacock and plum. The utility look continues with the inspiration of "Edie Beale joins the military" which mixes ball skirts and army jackets. Some models even had twigs in their hair! There was definitely a city girl visits the country feeling for fall.
It was such a treat to experience the preview in person and there were a lot fashion editors and friends of fashion in attendance. (Check out some of their photos at the end.) Besides the clothing though, the highlight of the evening had to be when my friend Jessica whispered to me that Phillip Lim was standing right behind me! If you are a regular reader, you know my love for anything Phillip Lim and I have been dying to meet him so I had to introduce myself. He was there to support Jenna Lyons but the best part is that Phillip reads my blog! I swear I almost started crying! We had a wonderful little chat about fashion and design and how they are related. Meeting him made my day and thank goodness I was wearing my favorite Phillip Lim necklace mixed with my J.Crew blazer and jeans of course! I'm already thinking about pairing them with that fabulous feather vest for fall too!

Amanda Cutter Brooks, who may remember seeing recently in the J.Crew catalog and Olya Thompson, whose Brooklyn brownstone was featured in Vogue, stopped by to support Jenna Lyons, the creative director of J. Crew above. While below, Virginia Smith of Vogue chats with model turned blogger Henneli Mustaparta. Based on the fact that Amanda and Virginia are wearing bell bottoms, you can probably bet these will be replacing the skinny jeans in your closet soon!
